Thousands of lawyers and political activists in Pakistan are converging on the capital, Islamabad, to demand the reinstatement of judges sacked by President Pervez Musharraf last year.
Friday's planned rally is the climax of a series of demonstrations to have the judges restored to their jobs as the new coalition government had pledged when they won general elections in February. The government parties remain divided on how to reinstate the justices. Musharraf dismissed them last November when he declared emergency rule to stop the Supreme Court ruling on whether his re-election while still army chief was legal.
