The cabinet meeting originally was to take place on Monday. An extraordinary cabinet meeting may be held later next week.
At present, however, such meeting is not expected. It seems that the cabinet ministers will next week spend many hours in the Chamber of Deputies that was bogged down in disputes over the composition of committees in the past few days. The Chamber's work was delayed and only two points on the agenda were discussed during the regular session. Czech opposition CSSD expects no-confidence in three weeks ... extraordinary session opening early next week. The tense relations in the Chamber complicate the ministers' work. The opposition Social Democrats (CSSD) recently said they would no longer observe the practice of pairing out, or compensation of absent coalition or opposition deputies, that had so far helped preserve the balance of forces between the coalition and the opposition in the Chamber. The ministers have often used pairing out when they did not take part in Chamber sessions because of other work. As the government coalition has only a shaky majority, many ministers who are MPs had to cancel their working trips abroad. The government regularly meets on Wednesday. If the Chamber is in session, the government meets on Monday. The government does not meet during the summer holiday, this year scheduled from July 28 to August 15.
