14.06.2008 - Disputes in Czech government Green Party continue

Both MPs stressed they would definitely not leave the party. The SZ council Czech Greens not to seek post in Chamber of Deputies leadership ...
Czech Greens should convoke congress over Bursik - party official ...
was originally to deal with disputes in the party's six-member deputy group, but in the end it did not have the necessary quorum as not enough members stayed at the meeting. Zubova and Jakubkova wanted to submit their own report on the deputy group's work to the council as an alternative to the report by deputy group head Katerina Jacques with whom both MPs have been in dispute for some time. Zubova and Jakubkova criticised insufficient communication with the group leadership. However, Jacques and Greens chairman Martin Bursik pointed out that exactly these two deputies participated in the group's work less actively than the others. Zubova, head of the Greens national council, dismissed it again today as "nonsense." Jakubkova added that Bursik had not met her and Zubova since June 10. Bursik, who participated in today's meeting, refused to comment on internal disputes in the party.

He did ton appear at the press conference where Zubova and SZ council deputy head Matej Stropnicky informed about the approved resolutions. Zubova and Jakubkova voted with the left-wing opposition several times in the past few weeks. The centre-right government coalition of the Civic Democrats (ODS), the Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL) and the SZ has only 100 deputies in the 200-seat lower house and it must rely on support of two former CSSD MPs in crucial votes. The disputes in the Green Party can therefore seriously harm the coalition's work. Some deputies for the ODS and the KDU-CSL also sometimes vote at variance with the majority decision. PM Mirek Topolanek (ODS) recently admitted that this situation might threaten the coalition. He mentioned a possibility of a minority government as a solution.
