In the US state of Iowa thousands of people have been driven from their homes after severe storms have caused several rivers to flood their banks.
Authorities have issued mandatory evacuation in several cities. Unprecedented flooding covered hundreds of city blocks in Cedar Rapids while in the state capital of Des Moines a levee ruptured causing the Des Moines River to pour into the city's centre. Extreme weather has left at least 15 people dead and thousands homeless in the state in recent days. The damage there is estimated to reach hundreds of millions of dollars.
