Chinese authorities say more than 55 people have been killed in severe flooding across southern China.
The official Xinhua news agency reports that more than 1 million people have been forced to leave their homes across nine provinces, including Sichuan, which is still recovering from a powerful earthquake that killed over 70,000 people. Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier, who is wrapping up a visit to China, has promised that Germany will rebuild eight schools destroyed by last month's earthquake.
