It is immoral to be poor and take everything willingly and then, becoming rich, to close one's heart and wallet to the poor.

In general, even Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek might agree with this, Novotny writes. However, Topolanek has made it quite clear that he sees the Czech presence in the EU exactly in this way, he adds. He would like to make the most of its influence and financial resources, but to undermine it at the same time, Novotny writes, alluding to Topolanek's having said that the Czech Republic has interrupted the ratification of the Lisbon treaty. Topolanek should insist Germany gets first ever conservative-green govt. ...

on this position and call for a referendum on the departure from the EU. This would be a relief both for the EU and his Civic Democratic Party (ODS). The rest will either cry or escape, Novotny concludes. The smallest parties experience the decay in the fastest fashion, this is the rule valid in the Czech Republic, Jaroslav Plesl writes about the growing discord among the Czech Greens in Lidove noviny. After two years in the Chamber of Deputies, this rule has hit the Greens who tried to depict themselves as a modern and open party, full of idealistic liberals adhering to the life in a commune, Plesl writes. However, the era is over. Now there is the atmosphere like in Stalin's politburo in their deputies' group, Plesl writes. There is the question of what faction will get the upper hand. For this, a national congress must be called. Before it, Greens' deputies Olga Zubova and Vera Jakubkova will play the role of martyrs and party leader Martin Bursik, who is at loggerheads with them, will eventually save his post. However, all of them can already say good-bye to the parliament, Plesl predicts. The Communists welcome everything that might undermine the position of Social Democrat leader Jiri Paroubek, Alexandr Mitrofanov writes about the disputes between the two parties in Pravo. The Communists have lost the certainty that Paroubek will ally with themselves as soon as the opportunity arises, he adds. Besides, the Communists have always detested more renegades than real foes. Now they can consider Paroubek a traitor, Mitrofanov writes. Although he was never a Communist party member, he behaved like their biggest ally before the 2006 general elections. There is no doubt that if the elections' results had been a slightly more favourable for the left, he would have tried to rule with the Communists' backing, he adds. However, after the presidential elections earlier this year, Paroubek started orientating himself on the parties outside the left for the sake of future cooperation in the government, Mitrofanov writes.
