Austrian author Josef Winkler has been awarded this year's Georg Büchner Prize by the Germany Academy for Language and Literature. The 55-year-old Winkler, who lives in Klagenfurt, has written several novels including "The Serf", an account of a backward rural community in Austria.
His books deal among other things with the problems had by homosexuals in such societies.
