Cunek was already suspected of corruption in the past.
In 2002, when he was mayor of Vsetin, north Moravia, he allegedly took over a half a million bribe for the sale of the town's stake in Vsetinske byty s.r.o. company to H Real real estate firm. He resigned from the government in early November 2007 when the case was reopened. The case was, however, definitively halted a fortnight later. Cunek returned to the government in April. Vsetin, however, got only 3,618,000 crowns for its stake. "Throughout the proceedings (on the alleged bribe) no one ever addressed the question whether the sale of the stake was at all in harmony with law and whether it was advantageous for the town," Jehlicka told CTK. According to Skrepek, the anti-corruption police are now finding out whether the police had already checked such a suspicion in connection with the alleged bribery case. If not, the anti-corruption squad will hand the case to the Vsetin police. If such investigation has already been carried out, the police will no longer deal with Jehlicka's criminal complaint, Skrepek said. ($1=15.658 crowns)
