Authorities have described the Palestinian-Jordanian terror suspect as a central figure in the al-Qaida network and Osama bin Laden's right-hand man in Europe. British officials said he will be subjected to a 22-hour home curfew and tight restrictions on his liberty. Last month the Court of Appeal blocked government attempts to deport him back to Jordan, where Abu Qatada is wanted for his involvement in terrorist attacks. British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said she would try and overturn the decision that prevented his deportation. She also said that the decision to release Abu Qatada on bail, would be appealed in the House of Lords, Britain's highest court.
