Georgian police have detained 14 Russian peacekeepers near its breakaway region of Abkhazia after they were found transporting weapons without permission.
That's according to a Georgian Interior Ministry official. The incident is likely to further strain ties between Moscow and Tbilisi. Russia has been bolstering economic support for Abkhazian separatists and increased its peacekeeping presence there, despite Georgian objections. Russia has denied Georgian claims that it is trying to stoke a conflict over Abkhazia or intends to annex the territory.
