The German government has passed a climate protection package that Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel said would be the largest of its kind in the world.
Among other measures is an increase in truck tolls as of next year, higher energy standards for buildings, and the upgrading of the country's power grid. Germany is expected to pay more than 300 billion euros in the next 12 years for the environmental package.
