South African President Thabo Mbeki is set to visit Zimbabwe for talks with his counterpart Robert Mugabe ahead of next week's presidential election run-off.
The Zimbabwean state-owned Herald newspaper said the short-notice meeting between two leaders would happen this Wednesday in Zimbabwe's second city of Bulawayo. Mbeki has been asked by the regional Southern African Development Community to mediate between Mugabe's ruling ZANU-PF party and the main opposition Movement for Democratic Change. The MDC accuses Mugabe of a campaign of violence ahead of the run-off against its leader Morgan Tsvangirai.
