Two years after the Lebanon war, Israel has officially offered direct peace talks to Lebanon.
A spokesman for Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Israel was interested in achieving a peace deal with its northern neighbour. Israel's Ha'aretz newspaper reported that Olmert had indicated to US President George W. Bush, and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, that he was also prepared to negotiate on the issue of the Shebaa farms.
