The United Nations says rival Greek and Turkish leaders on the divided island of Cyprus will meet on July 1 to continue their re-unification process.
Greek Cypriot President Dimitris Christofias will meet his Turkish Cypriot counterpart Mehmet Ali Talat to arrange full-fledged negotiations on re-uniting the island. It is unclear when those negotiations will start. Cyprus has been split since 1974, when Turkey invaded the island in response to a pro-Greek coup. The division has complicated Turkey's bid to join the European Union as well as its relations with NATO, of which it is a member.
