A typhoon is sweeping the central Philippines.
It's killed at least 12 people, flooded nine towns and cities and forced 200,000 residents to evacuate to emergency shelters. Most of the victims drowned as the Risao river overflowed around the town of Upi. A landslide in Cotabato city also killed two residents. Typhoon Fenshen is tracking northwest, packing winds of at least 140 kilometres an hour. Forecasters say it will dump heavy rain on the main island of Luzon on Sunday. Many aviation and ferry services have been suspended. Environmental groups blamed illegal logging for making flooding worse. Around 20 typhoons hit the Philippines every year.
