Nigeria's most high-profile armed group in the Niger Delta on Sunday has declared a unilateral ceasefire beginning at 12 midnight on Tuesday.
The group, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, said the move was out of respect to an appeal by Niger Delta elders to give peace and dialogue another chance. The group told foreign aid workers to get out of the delta earlier this weekend to allow it to settle its score with the government.
