More than one million people joined the hour-long token strike in protest against the reforms the centre-right government launched in January, Milan Stech, chairman of the umbrella Bohemian and Moravian Confederation of Trade Unions (CMKOS), said. The government justifies the reforms by the need to stabilise public finance. The strike was held between 13:00 and 14:00 this afternoon. Deputy Prime Minister Petr Necas (ODS) echoed Topolanek when he said the protest is politically motivated, and added it is exaggerated to say it is "nationwide" strike.
