Under the amendment, the debtor living on welfare would not be paid the subsistence level, but the bare existence minimum amount. The unpaid maintenance is to become the priority sum to be paid when a company is sold. The local authorities are to help the people demanding the maintenance payment with their court complaints. The courts are to deal with the disputes over maintenance in a preferential regime, even before tax arrears and social and health insurance are settled. The damaged parents are not to deposit any advance payment for the distraint. Maintenance can be claimed by about 400,000 children in the Czech Republic.
Last year, over 9,000 Czechs faced a lawsuit over the default to pay.
