Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili is meeting in Berlin with German officials, including Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Georgia's strained relationship with Russia will top the political agenda. The leaders will also discuss Russia and Georgia's simmering conflict over the breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Relations between Russia and Georgia have deteriorated since Saakashvili came to power in 2004. The former Soviet republic wants the European Union and Germany to help mediate an end to the rift.
