Four die in trams collision in north Moravian city ... the supporters of the senior ruling right-wing Civic Democratic Party (ODS) show markedly low confidence in the unions. The pollsters noted that support for the unions has not markedly changed since the mid-1990s. Czechs showed the highest support for the unions in 1997 when half of them expressed confidence in them. On the other hand, in 2003 the unions were popular among only 37 percent of Czechs. The poll was conducted some three weeks before the token strike in which approximately one million people participated on Tuesday.
The strike was organised by the CMKOS umbrella trade unions in protest against the government's reforms.
