The German government and industrial partners, including automaker Volkswagen and the EON energy group, have launched a programme to encourage the development of environmentally friendly hybrid vehicles.
Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel has pledged 15 million euros to the project, which has four years to come up with prototypes able to charge batteries using renewable energy sources. Another goal is to develop advanced batteries for the vehicle.
