27.06.2008 - Salaries of Czechs teachers to rise as of August
Education Minister Ondrej Liska (Greens) agreed on the increase with the other cabinet ministers in May.
Extra 4 billion crowns are to go to salaries in education next year.
The Education Ministry plans to present a programme based on which the money would be distributed among individual teachers who meet given criteria.

The unions demanded at least 3 billion this year.
According to the Czech Statistical Office, the average monthly wage in education in the first quarter of this year was 18,131 crowns compared to the national average of 22,531.
The average wage in the industrial sphere was 23,174 crowns and in non-industrial 20,204 crowns.
Czech schools went on strike on June 9 and supported the token strike organised by the umbrella unions CMKOS on Tuesday.
The unions also mind the offered increase targeting only teachers but not other school employees.
