A smoking ban in cafes and restaurants applies nationally in Germany as of this Tuesday.
North Rhine Westphalia and Thuringia are the final German states to introduce the law as of July 1. Smoking in many taverns will now be restricted to specifically partitioned rooms. Hundreds of inn-keepers have challenged the legislation. Germany's constitutional court has said it will make a ruling on the issue.
