Cyprus has received its first water shipment from neighbouring Greece.
The eastern Mediterranean island is grappling with a severe water shortage. Tuesday's shipment of 40,000 cubic metres is more than double the quantity currently available in all of the island's main reservoirs. The island plans to import 8 million cubic metres of water from Greece by mid-November. Cyprus, which is heavily reliant on rainfall for water supplies, is suffering one of the worst droughts and water shortages of the past 100 years.
