Russia's chief criminal investigator claims the man suspected of killing Russian reporter and Kremlin-critic Anna Politkovskaya is hiding in Western Europe.
That's according to Interfax news agency. Alexander Bastrykin added that justice officials in Belgium, France and Switzerland had been asked for help in apprehending the suspect - a Chechen called Rustam Makhmudov. The murdered Politkovskaya was a critic of the Kremlin who faced intimidation for her reporting on human rights abuses in Russia's turbulent North Caucasus region. She was shot dead on October 7, 2006, outside her Moscow apartment.
