California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has extended a state of emergency in the western US state as wildfires continue to burn out of control.
Schwarzenegger also declared disaster status in Santa Barbara, making it the 11th county severely affected by the fires. Federal aid has been sent into the state to try to contain the fires which have been burning for two weeks. 20,000 personnel are involved in fighting the blaze which has destroyed over 212 square kilometres and burned 16 homes.
