Hamas has suspended negotiations with Israel on the release of Gilad Shalit, an Israeli soldier who was captured by the militant Palestinian group two years ago.
A senior Hamas official said talks had been frozen because Israel was not respecting the terms of a truce with the Islamist movement. The move comes as Israel again sealed off the Gaza Strip in retaliation for a rocket attack, itself a violation of the June 19 ceasefire between the two sides. A Hamas spokesman claimed the rockets were not fired by Hamas members.
