There has been a large explosion near the Indian Embassy in the Afghan capital, Kabul.
A health ministry official said the blast occurred early Monday killing at least seven people and wounding another 19, adding that the numbers could rise. Taliban insurgents have vowed to step up their campaign of suicide bombings this year to overthrow the pro-Western Afghan government and drive out foreign forces. On Sunday, Afghan officials said that a coalition missile strike killed at least 23 civilians going to a wedding ceremony in eastern Afghanistan. The attack occurred in the Nagarhar province and locals said most of those killed women and children. The US denied the claims, saying no civilians were in the area during the strike.
