07.07.2008 - Serbia swears in pro-EU cabinet

The Serbian Parliament has backed new Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic's pro-European government, swearing them in late on Monday after a marathon session.

The Czech Republic news are represented by www.prague-hotel-hotels.com

Formation of the new administration ends five months of political deadlock, triggered by Kosovo's declaration of independence from Serbia. In his policy statement, Cvetkovic said that his priorities are to bring Serbia into the European Union, but also to keep Kosovo as part of Serbia. He said Belgrade would seek to rekindle ties with the United States, which had cooled over Washington's support for Kosovo's independence. The coalition of Democrats and Socialists averted the prospect of an ultra-nationalist government, which could have turned Serbia away from its pro-European course.
