German Chancellor Angela Merkel has urged Chinese President Hu Jintao to work for a successful outcome to talks between China and representatives of Tibet's spiritual leader the Dalai Lama.
That's according to a statement issued by Merkel's office after the two leaders met on the sidelines of the G8 summit in Japan. The Chinese government and the Dalai Lama critical of Chinese "suppression" ...
Four prisoners executed in Japan ... Dalai Lama's representatives last week wound up another round of talks on the status of Tibet, but an envoy of the spiritual leader said that no headway had been made. Beijing restarted the dialogue on Tibet recently as world criticism intensified over its massive crackdown on anti-Chinese riots in the Tibetan capital Lhasa earlier this year.
