The leaders of major rich and developing nations meeting in Japan have agreed to make what they call "deep cuts" in carbon emissions to fight climate change.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel called the ''shared vision'' a major step forward from the climate deal reached at last year's G8 meeting in Germany. However, environmentalists remain sceptical. The World Wide Fund for Nature said G8 leaders had not managed to move beyond a "stalemate" over distributing the burden of emissions-cuts between rich and developing countries.
