Out of the country's 27,628 health facilities, only 249 teaching and big hospitals, established by ministries, are owned by the state. The 60 facilities managed by regions employ 8 percent of doctors and 11 percent of the medical staff, and offer 12 percent of all beds. Private facilities employ almost 69 percent of doctors, 57 percent of the medical staff, and own 52 percent of all beds. A total of 43,700 doctors and over 105,400 medical staff worked in all Czech health facilities as from the end of 2007, one doctor per 238 inhabitants, according to the UZIS. Of the country's 27,628 health facilities, almost 19,600 are surgeries of general and child practitioners and out-patient specialists. Three-quarters of all doctors (over 31,000) and a half of the medical staff work in out-patient care. More than 80 percent of out-patient care is provided by private surgeries and facilities. The access to primary health care is similar in all of the country's 14 regions. There is an average of 1,408 inhabitants per general or child practitioner, 1,700 per dentist, and 4,150 women per gynaecologist in the Czech Republic. There are 192 hospitals with 63,662 beds altogether, 153 specialist health care institutes with 22,191 beds and 85 spa facilities with 25,737 beds. Spas are almost fully in private hands. There are 82.7 hospital beds per 100,000 inhabitants. In hospitals' bed wards, except for spas, 10,700 doctors and 41,400 medical staff are employed, the UZIS said.
