11.07.2008 - Germany rejects PKK demands for hostages

The German government has rejected demands made by Kurdish rebels as conditions for the release of three German hostages abducted in eastern Turkey on Tuesday.

The Czech Republic news are represented by www.prague-hotel-hotels.com

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said the German government could not be blackmailed and called for the hostages' immediate release.  The Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, rebels said they would free the hostages only if Germany gave up what they called "hostile policies" against the PKK. The PKK is listed as a terrorist group by the European Union and has been banned in Germany for nearly 15 years. The three German mountaineers were taken hostage late on Tuesday on Mount Ararat.
