Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and his Colombian counterpart Alvaro Uribe say they want to promote closer ties, after months of political tension.
Speaking after a one-day meeting in Venezuela, Chavez said that a new era of co-operation was dawning. The two leaders have clashed in the last eight months over the FARC, a leftist guerrilla group in Colombia. Chavez has in the past openly supported the FARC which has led a decades long insurgency against the Colombian government. Uribe's cousin refused asylum over militia probe ... Betancourt, Chavez has distanced himself from the rebel group and sought closer ties with Uribe. Friday's meeting was expected to focus on cooperation along the shared border and trade. Colombia is Venezuela's second-biggest trading partner, after the United States.
