Chavez calls for steel takeover ... has in the past openly supported the FARC which has led a decades-long insurgency against the Colombian government. However, since the dramatic rescue of 15 FARC hostages, including Franco-Colombian politician, Ingrid Betancourt, Chavez has distanced himself from the rebel group and sought closer ties with Uribe. Colombia is Venezuela's second-biggest trading partner, after the United States.
