Pope Benedict XVI has arrived in Australia where he will attend the World Youth Day festival in Sydney.
Before landing Benedict told reporters aboard the papal plane that he intended to use his six-day trip to apologise for a sexual abuse scandal that has rocked the Catholic Church in Australia. The pope's visit coincides with the reopening of an abuse case involving a Sydney priest and dating back to 1982.
