The all-European poll showed that a mere 36 percent of Czechs are convinced that the EU sufficiently considers Czech interests, but 48 percent of Czechs believe EU membership is good her the country. Projects ... on EU developments is more than twice as high as in the Czech Republic, namely 48 percent. According to Eurobarometer, the Czechs are similarly sceptical about the importance of their voice in home politics as well. Besides, a majority of Czechs (54 percent) say they rather do not understand the functioning of the European Union. Yet, a marked majority of Czechs would like certain important issues to be transferred to the Brussels level.
This concerns anti-terrorism struggle (85 percent), defence, foreign policy and scientific research (72 percent). On the other hand, a majority of Czechs think tax policy, pensions and social care should remain in the hands of the Czech government. With the exception of EU enlargement, the Czechs' opinions do not differ much from opinions in other countries. The Czechs just as other new member countries support further EU enlargement more than the all-European average. In the Czech Republic it is 63 percent of citizens.
