Fishermen across Japan have been holding a one-day strike to protest against skyrocketing fuel prices.
Organizers say this is the biggest work stoppage the Japanese fishing industry has ever seen, involving 200,000 boats and 400,000 workers. More than 3,000 fishermen from across the country gathered in central Tokyo and held a rally outside of the building that houses the fisheries ministry. They are demanding government aid to help them cope with fuel price rises, which they say are making it impossible to operate at a profit.
