Prime Minister Yves Leterme's coalition is continuing to govern the country in the capacity of a caretaker administration, after the king knocked back the premiere's offer to resign. Flanders, in Belgium's Dutch speaking north is seeking more autonomy in line with its prosperity, and resents its perceived subsidy of the French speaking Wallonia region in the south. There is fear the country could split in two if a compromise is not reached.
