British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has begun an unannounced visit to Israel and the West Bank.
British officials said Brown was to meet Israeli President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and senior ministers. Britons feared on missing plane ... to stress the need for increased investment in the Palestinian territories. Earlier, Brown visited Baghdad to meet Iraqi leaders. Following talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, Brown said he wants to scale back British troops in Iraq, but would not set what he called an "artificial timetable" for withdrawing the 4,000 soldiers remaining there.
