Czech Const.Court assessing Lisbon Treaty - deputy PM ... The Czech Republic will preside the European Union in the first half of next year.
Topolanek met Vondra today within his current tour during which he assesses the performance of government members.
Topolanek said Vondra and his team's work is excellent.
He said the government would like the European agenda to be coordinated in the future from Vondra's office that could possibly develop into a fully-fledged ministry.
Vondra said the preparation for EU presidency is proceeding according to schedule, but he conceded that the last four months ahead of the start of the presidency will be "hot."
The government prepares an extensive explanatory campaign that should acquaint citizens with the meaning of Czech EU presidency.
Topolanek said it is very important for people to comprehend what presidency means in fact, that they should not have exaggerated expectations on the one hand and that on the other hand they should be proud of factual directing the European Union during the period of six months.
He said the campaign will explain to people the internal functioning of the EU, its institutions, its changing responsibilities as well as the Czech role and opportunity to influence European issues.
According to the latest Eurobarometer all-European poll, a mere 22 percent of Czechs think that their voice has a weight in the EU.
Yet, the EU enjoys a much higher trust of people than the Czech government according to the same poll.
