Father of German-Iraqi Hostage Appeals to Kidnappers ... are reportedly in good health and are expected to return home to Germany Monday afternoon. Neither German Chancellor Angela Merkel nor Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has commented on whether any ransom was paid. The three men were captured by separatist rebels from the Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, during a climbing expedition on Mount Ararat in eastern Turkey. The rebels had demanded that Berlin stop its crackdown on PKK supporters in Germany. Chancellor Merkel said Germany would not be blackmailed. The PKK has been fighting for Kurdish autonomy since 1984 and is listed as a terrorist organisation in Turkey, the European Union and the United States.
