On Sunday, Obama called for an immediate increase of US troops in Afghanistan, saying conditions there were precarious and urgent. The comments came after meeting Afghan President Hamid Karzai in Kabul. Obama has previously said he would deploy an extra 10,000 US troops to Afghanistan while downscaling US forces in Iraq. Later in the week, he is scheduled to travel to Israel, Jordan, Germany, Britain and France.
