The Doha round was launched in 2001 with the aim of bolstering the global economy and lowering trade barriers worldwide to allow poorer countries to export more. Many developing nations are calling on industrialised countries to cut their subsidies and tariffs for agricultural products, while Brussels and Washington want big emerging nations like China, India and Brazil to first open their economies.
