Nepal's first president has taken the oath of office.
Ram Baran Yadav, who was elected earlier this week by the Constituent Assembly, was sworn in at the presidential house in a ceremony broadcast live on national television. Yadav, a 61-year-old former health minister and trained medical doctor, said he plans to use his new position to try to unite Nepal and address grievances among the Himalayan country's ethnic communities. Yadav is the first president to take office in the Nepal since the 240-year-old monarchy was abolished in May by the Constituent Assembly.
