The International Criminal Court in The Hague is pushing for the extradition of ex-Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic from a prison in Belgrade.
He is accused of crimes against humanity including the massacre of 8,000 Bosnian Muslims in Srebrenica in 1995 and the siege of Sarajevo, during which some 11,000 people died. He spent 12 years on the run, posing as a doctor of alternative medicine in Belgrade before being arrested in the Serb capital on Monday. Serbian authorities are trying to discover who helped Karadzic assume his false identity of a Bosnian Serb soldier who was killed in Sarajevo in 1993 during the country's ethnic war.
