The European Union and South Africa have held their first ever summit in the French city of Bordeax.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy used the event to say that the EU would continue to support the mediation effort of South African President Thabo Mbeki in the Zimbabwe crisis. At the same time Sarkozy warned that the negotiations between Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and his opposition rival Morgan Tsvangirai should not be drawn out for too long. Other issues discussed during the summit included immigration, trade and climate change.
