German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has met with Afghan President Hamid Karzai in Kabul.
The president's office said talks touched on Berlin's decision to boost its troops in Afghanistan to 4,500 next year. Germany currently has 3,500 troops in the country. Earlier, Steinmeier pledged continued support for building and training Afghan security forces. The German minister said it was vital to push ahead with the training of security forces as the security situation in the country had worsened. Steinmeier's visit is aimed at reviewing progress in German-funded development and security efforts.
