Ministers at the global trade talks in Geneva, Switzerland, have been battling to finalise a new global free trade pact on a sixth day of gruelling negotiations. Friday saw a tentative breakthrough in the areas of farming and industry after the talks threatened to collapse.
Saturday's talks moved to services, an important area for developed nations. European Union Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson said he was "moderately encouraged" by the progress made. Trade ministers from 35 nations attending the World Trade Organization meeting are seeking to revitalise the stalled Doha round by securing a deal between wealthy industrialised nations and developing countries.
