Thousands of ground crew and cabin staff at Germany's Lufthansa airline have gone on strike to support a wage claim.
In spite of the walkout, that started at midnight on Sunday during the peak holiday season, Lufthansa spokesman, Klaus Walther, said on national public television broadcaster ZDF that around 100 morning flights had taken off with at worst just short Strike threatens to disrupt Lufthansa flights ...

Ebadi calls on media to foster peace ... delays. On Friday, the Ver.di union, which represents over 50,000 airline workers, voted overwhelmingly to strike. Ver.di is demanding a 9.8 percent pay rise but Lufthansa, Europe's second biggest airline, is offering 6.7 percent. Further strikes are planned at several other main airports. German politicians have urged both sides to co-operate in reaching a deal to end the dispute quickly.
